AHEAD With Horses, a therapeutic riding program that serves kids 12 and under who have multiple and severe disabilities, will give participants a chance to show what they're accomplished with its 32nd Annual Photo Fun Day on Saturday at the program's Shadow Hills, Calif., location.
The program works primarily with children with developmental disabilities ranging from the autism spectrum to spina bifida and cerebral palsy, to help them develop skills and greater self-sufficiency. HIV-positive children with developmental disabilities are welcomed and, according to organizers, never equired to disclose their status.
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, AHEAD With Horses (AHEAD stands for Accelerated Habilitation Education and Development) will host the friends and family members of kids in the program as well as the local community memberes for a showcase of riding abilities and outstanding achievement awards.
"It's a time where they really get to shine," says executive director Michelle Newman. "They get to show off what they've been working towards."
Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door and include a barbecue lunch. Prices are $12 for adults, and $6 for children; kids under 3 are admitted free. There will also be games, arts and crafts, a silent auction, and a T-shirt sale. For questions about both the program and the event, call (818) 767-6373 or visit AWHLA.org.
