30 Years from Here
Looking over the 30 plus years of the HIV pandemic, it's astounding to consider just how far we've come; but we still have a long way to go. That's what makes 30 Years From Here so incredible. It compiles three decades worth of archival footage from protests, news programs and interviews to chronicle the epidemic — from its earliest roots as a mysterious "gay cancer" to the international movement and medical breakthroughs surrounding the virus today. The footage and interviews with activists, medical experts and people personally affected by the disease remain as powerful and startling today as they ever were.
Heart of Broadway: The Ensemble Behind Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS
In 1985, beloved Broadway performers started getting sick and dying from Gay Related Immune Disease (GRID), and those around them had no idea how it was spread or how to help (God knows President Reagan and NYC Mayor Koch weren't helping).
So Broadway came up with its own solutions: Broadway Cares and Equity Fights AIDS, two fundraising organizations that have since become America's leading industry-based nonprofit helping actors and others with HIV.
Heart of Broadway takes you behind the scenes of their annual events — like the Gypsy of the Year competition and the bawdy burlesque show Broadway Bares — to meet the creative minds and hearts behind Broadway's most stunning HIV organization. The dazzling costumes, fantastic musical numbers and surprise celebrity appearances will amaze you.
Here Focus: AIDS/HIV
While documentaries like We Were Here and How to Survive a Plague focus on the activists and people who fought during the start of the epidemic, Here Focus: AIDS/HIV takes a closer look the organizations still helping people with HIV on the front lines. The dedicated men and women of the Gay Men's Health Crisis, God’s Love We Deliver, Broadway Cares and Pediatric AIDS share their stories about the challenges and rewards of supporting and educating the LGBT community and world about HIV.
