April 4 may seem like a typical day, but to the surprise of many, it’s also a day to celebrate uncircumcised penises. Foreskin Day takes place on 4/4 (get it?) and is a day to call attention to many issues facing those in the uncut community. It’s also a way to plug condoms, as well as point out the specific issues facing those with foreskins.
ONE Condoms is celebrating the day by sharing resources and condom advice to those with foreskin, pointing out in a release that 79 percent of uncircumcised people have difficulty using condoms. Additionally, ONE reports that 27 percent of people in a survey reported bunching up in their foreskin when using condoms, “creating friction and leading to slippage and even breakage.”
On top of the practical issues related to having foreskin, many people — especially Americans — carry preconceived notions about the uncircumcised. ONE states that 33 percent of people with a foreskin report they have been treated differently by a sexual partner as a result of their penis.
“We’ve always been a brand that believes in starting conversations in an open, honest, and positive way,” Noah LeBlanc, ONE’s resident Size Specialist, said in a statement. “Customers with a foreskin frequently reach out to us for advice. When researching into the topic, we quickly realized there’s a ‘Foreskin Gap’ when it comes to modern sexual health and condom education.”
On its website, ONE debunks common misconceptions about foreskin, offers condom fit solutions, and shares advices throughout a “Foreskin Pleasure Enhancement Guide.”
Foreskin Day is also a time to consider the “Intact” movement, which advocates against male circumcision, believing it's a cruel practice. There are also conflicting reports on whether circumcision actually helps prevent HIV.
