Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis, commonly known as PrEP, has been the talk of the gay community in recent months, and it's been subject to loads of misinformaton. Here's where #AskTheHIVDoc comes in handy.
In the latest installment of the YouTube health series, Dr. David quickly explains the basics of the breakthrough drug that can drastically prevent the risk of contracting HIV.
“You take the medication before you get HIV to protect yourself in case you do get exposed,” he explains. “In the studies that we’ve seen with gay men, when taken every day, it can be effective in reducing the risk of HIV by anywhere from 90 percent to close to 100 percent.”
