Results of a study published in Hepatology show that people who drank three or more cups a coffee a day, even decaf, had lower levels of various liver enzymes than those who drank none, indicating that chemical compounds in coffee other than caffeine may help protect the liver. Previous studies found that coffee consumption may help lower the risk of developing diabetes, cardiovascular disease, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, cirrhosis, and liver cancer.
