The Rio Grande Valley has been at the frontline of an HIV epidemic affecting increasing numbers of young, queer, Latino men.
Latin-X is a brand-new series from VICE that explores the lives of those in the latinx community. Hosted by activist and advocate Paola Ramos, the first episode of the series looks at a group of activists working in the Rio Grande Valley along the U.S.-Mexico border to address the growing HIV epidemic. In the episode, Ramos sits down with Joe Colon-Uvalles (aka Beatrix LeStrange) a “dragtivist” fighting the stigma surrounding HIV and helping educate the community, encouraging LGBT Latinos to get tested.
Paola Ramos is a latinx activist and a correspondent for Noticias Telemundo. Coming from one of the most visible Mexican-American families in America (her father is the famed journalist Jorge Ramos), Paola has been on the frontline of the fight for the of the latinx community her entire life.
