Hornet's latest 'Ask a Pro' video addresses the commonly held misconception.
Hornet, the gay social networking app, continues to release episodes from its “Ask A Pro” video series. The most recent video endeavors to answer the age-old question of whether or not HIV is a death sentence. While there have been great advancements in HIV many people still associate HIV with death, particularly when people still die from it if it’s not treated.
Hornet’s expert, Alex Garner, provides insight into what it means to live with HIV. Successful treatment of the virus can mean a long, normal life span. It’s key for people living with HIV to have access to quality care and start antiretroviral treatment immediately. Garner isn’t just a health expert he has also been living with HIV for over 21 years and can that HIV does not equal death.
“It’s not uncommon to associate HIV with death since millions have died from this disease,” said Garner, Hornet’s Senior Innovation Strategist. “We know how to treat HIV but the real issue is ensuring people have access to care. It’s equally important that we can witness people who are not only living with HIV but also thriving. It’s why organizations like Let’s Kick Ass are so important as they help demonstrate the diverse narratives of living with HIV and remind us of the unique challenges HIV-positive people face when building a life. “
