The Importance of Creating Your Circle of Support
Living with HIV doesn’t mean you can’t have a life full of love, family, friendship, and joy.
No one living with HIV should ever have to feel like they are “in it alone.” But unfortunately, that’s how many folks report feeling when they first get diagnosed. The good news is, you’re most certainly not in this alone! Thousands of organizations and groups exist across the country that were created to lift up and support people living with HIV. Not only will getting to know other folks going through the same things make you feel a whole lot better, you’re sure to make a few new friends in the process. In addition to support groups, don’t be afraid to lean on friends, lovers, and family members whom you love and trust during difficult days (but never feel pressured to disclose your status to anyone unless you’re ready to). In this video from Plus’s ongoing The Talk series, listen as some folks living with HIV share stories of finding community and support — and reclaiming their joy.
