Four-time Olympic gold medalist and five-time world champion, Greg Louganis has signed on with the organization Equality California to promote its 1.7-mile fund-raising swim off the coast of Malibu, Calif., on September 25.
EQCA is currently lobbying for 16 bills with state legislators, according to its announcement, hoping to expand protections for gay and lesbian Californians.
Louganis announced in his 1995 autobiography, Breaking the Surface, that he was HIV-positive. The book also recounted his concerns about his knowledge of being seropositive at the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games, where he hit his head on the diving board during competition, causing him to bleed into the pool.
