Netherlands Sees Steady Incline in HIV Rates
The rate of HIV infection among gay Dutch men has risen to numbers higher than when the epidemic exploded in the early 1980s.
Nearly 850 gay men in the Netherlands were diagnosed with HIV this year, and an estimated 8,000-10,000 Dutch are unaware that they are carrying the virus, according to Radio Netherlands.
About 1,200 people were newly diagnosed with HIV between June 2009 and June 2010, bringing the total number of diagnosed people that the government is aware of to 13,000.
